The Lady of the Camellias

31 Dec

Here is my last painting and last blog post for the year!

Instead of sticking to watercolor, I tried using acrylics again after 2 years. One reason why I never really stuck with acrylics is because I tend to use so much paint and it was getting expensive. Watercolor is the cheaper alternative, although it is more challenging to control. This painting was pegged on the novel by Alexandre Dumas, La Dame aux camélias. It’s actually based on the author’s real love story with a courtesan. The novel inspired other works such as La Traviata, Moulin Rouge and several stage and screen adaptations. Like with most forbidden love stories, this one ends in tragedy. Lately, I’ve been in to looking up tragic personas. There is just something beautiful about tragedies.

Happy New Year!!!
